DC to DC Converters
DC to
DC Converters are devices which do as their
name suggests and convert one dc voltage to another
dc voltage often using switched mode technology. There
are galvanically isolated and lower cost non-isolated
types but whilst they perform the same basic function
the isolated DC to DC Converters offer better protection
for the devices connected to them.
DC to DC Converters span a wide range of applications.
For example they can be used at very low power mounted
on printed circuit boards or large rack mounted units
can provide many kilowatts of power in an hot swap n+1
redundant configuration on a large telecom power system.
Consequently there are many different mounting styles
including encapsulated pcb mount, chassis mount, open
frame, din rail mount and 19" rack mount units,
so almost any mounting style can be catered for.
Often
these DC to DC Converters are used as the result of
an afterthought or to fix a particular on site problem.
The engineer might be working on a 48Vdc system and
realise that he needs to connect a piece of 24Vdc equipment
to the system in this case a DC to DC Converter
represents the perfect solution.
DC to DC Converters are used to overcome a large number
of different application problems including: suppressing
of transients on vehicles, taking into account and correcting
volt drop in long cable runs, converting from one particular
dc voltage to another to allow equipment with different
input voltages to run from the same source, stabilising
battery voltages so that sensitive equipment doesn't
see the charged and or discharged state of the battery.
Simplypowersupplies.com offer single output DC to DC
Converters from 15W to 2.5kW in input and output voltages
from 3.3Vdc to 250Vdc. In applications where larger
power is required we offer systems with multiple DC
to DC Converter units wired in parallel to provide up
to 250kW of output power. These systems are often rack
based and can be configured as pure power boost or n+1
redundant to give a backup in case of a module failure.
In such cases these systems can be produced with signal
relays for alarm monitoring, quick release cables for
fast module changeover and decoupling diodes to prevent
back feed from the battery system and / or to limit
short circuit faults to their particular module location.
In addition to standard DC to DC Converters, simplypowersupplies.com
engineers can also provide units set to non standard
output voltages. These DC to DC Converters are pre-adjusted
under load and labelled accordingly prior to despatch.
In some cases we can also provide uniits in a different
physical case or ruggedised for vehicle applications
where vibration could be an issue. Many of the Zentro-Elektrik
DC to DC Converters provided by simplypowersupplies.com
can also be supplied to comply with the European Rail
industry standards EN50155 and ENV50121.
